Women of Reproductive Health AMR Sensitization Workshop

July 28, 2025 | Oke Ilewo Primary Health Centre, Abeokuta.

On July 28, 2025, we reached 60 women of reproductive age at Oke Ilewo Primary Health Centre, Abeokuta, with a focused sensitization workshop on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), hygiene, and nutrition. Through interactive sessions led by a professional nurse, participants learned how everyday practices like improper antibiotic use, poor hygiene, and inadequate nutrition contribute to infections and drug resistance. Practical demonstrations, including proper handwashing, and engaging activities like a “Fact or Myth” game helped simplify key concepts and encourage participation. Educational materials were distributed to support continued learning at home, alongside hygiene supplies for both participants and the health facility. Impact: - Increased awareness of AMR and the dangers of antibiotic misuse - Improved knowledge of infection prevention through hygiene (WASH) - Strengthened understanding of nutrition's role in immunity - Boosted confidence in making informed health decisions Participants described the session as eye-opening and practical, with many expressing commitment to changing their hygiene and medication practices. This initiative reinforces the critical role women play in driving healthier households and communities through informed, everyday decisions.
