Strengthening Nigeria's AMR Response
Advancing evidence-based research, strategic advocacy, and systems-level action to address emerging public health threats.

Antimicrobial Resistance Is Escalating Globally
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time. The misuse and overuse of antibiotics in human health, animal health, and agriculture are accelerating resistance, making once-treatable infections increasingly difficult and sometimes impossible to cure. In Nigeria and across low- and middle-income countries, weak stewardship systems, limited surveillance, and gaps in public awareness further compound the threat. Without coordinated action, AMR will continue to undermine healthcare delivery, economic stability, and global health security.

Project NASI
The NextGen Antimicrobial Stewards Initiative (NASI) Virtual AMR Training and Mentorship Program is a four-month structured capacity-building program designed to equip young professionals with technical and practical knowledge in antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Since its inception in 2025, NASI has completed one cohort, training a total of 20 young professionals across different states in Africa, with the 2026 cohort currently in progress. Each cohort participates in structured weekly sessions covering foundational concepts of AMR, rational antimicrobial use, infection prevention and control, One Health approaches linking human, animal, and environmental health, and practical case studies. Participants also engage in interactive mentorship, developing project proposals or interventions to apply their learning in real-world contexts. The program emphasizes research, advocacy, and community engagement skills, ensuring graduates are not only knowledgeable but capable of leading initiatives to combat AMR in their local settings. Over the course of each cohort, participants gain hands-on experience through scenario-based exercises, virtual discussions with experts, and personalized guidance from mentors. This approach has helped NASI build a growing network of young professionals committed to advancing antimicrobial stewardship across Africa.

Strategic Areas of Intervention
Our work is structured around defined pillars that address antimicrobial resistance at multiple levels of the health system.

Community-Based Solutions
We design and implement locally driven interventions that respond to the unique health needs of communities. By engaging community members as active partners, we ensure culturally relevant, sustainable solutions that improve health outcomes and promote ownership.

Research & Evidence Generation
We generate and translate evidence to inform public health practice and innovation. Through interdisciplinary research and data-driven approaches, we identify emerging health challenges, evaluate interventions, and contribute to scalable, evidence-based solutions.

Capacity Building
We strengthen the skills and competencies of young professionals, healthcare workers, and community stakeholders through targeted training, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing platforms. Our goal is to empower a new generation of public health leaders equipped to drive lasting impact.

Policy & Advocacy
We advocate for inclusive, evidence-informed policies that advance health equity and system resilience. By engaging policymakers, stakeholders, and communities, we help shape policies that are responsive to real-world needs and grounded in scientific evidence.

Communication and Technology
We leverage digital tools and innovative technologies to enhance health education, data collection, and service delivery. By integrating technology with community engagement, we expand reach, improve efficiency, and drive smarter, more connected public health interventions.
