Wash4Wellness

WASH4Wellness is a school and community-focused initiative that integrates antimicrobial resistance (AMR) education with water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices. To date, the project has reached over 2,000 secondary school students through structured outreach sessions that combine learning and practical demonstrations. These sessions cover interactive AMR education, handwashing demonstrations, infection prevention practices, and discussions on responsible antibiotic use. The goal is to make AMR more relatable by connecting it to everyday hygiene behaviors that students can practice in their daily lives. Beyond school settings, the initiative also engages women of reproductive age through targeted programs focused on menstrual hygiene, household sanitation, and infection prevention practices that protect both family and community health. These sessions emphasize practical, culturally relevant hygiene knowledge, including safe menstrual hygiene management, proper waste disposal, and simple household practices that reduce the risk of infections. Through WASH4Wellness, we ensure that adolescents and women are not left out of antimicrobial resistance conversations. The project reinforces a simple but important message: prevention begins with everyday health behaviors, and small, consistent actions in hygiene and sanitation can play a critical role in reducing infections and slowing the spread of antimicrobial resistance.
